We have a new home - a purpose designed building with extended meat science laboratory, sensory panel testing facilities and a large electrical development workshop – in the Aotearoa Park industrial area adjacent to the former Aotearoa Meat plant near Cambridge.
Although these electrical technologies are not new we have developed a unique electronics platform that makes them far safer and more effective in more situations.
Our research has identified precisely how electrical inputs interact with other aspects of carcass processing and affect the quality of the final product. We can now configure the operation of each piece of equipment to meet specific commercial requirements for:
- Greater processing efficiency
- Meeting market requirements
- Better product quality and consistency
- Improved profitability
Carne Technologies (carne = Latin for meat) was formed in 2004 to provide technical support for a number of emerging meat industry technologies. The company expanded in 2006 to include a research and development laboratory, and since then an electronics facility and a small engineering workshop have been added.
Our staff has a diverse range of scientific knowledge and practical skills having worked for the former Meat Industry Research Institute (MIRINZ) and meat companies over several decades.
We offer a team approach that can draw on the expertise and skills of scientists (meat scientists and biochemists), technicians and students with electronics and engineering capability. These may be staff members, consultants or others available through our joint ventures with other companies.
Our FocusOur work is based mainly around the beef and lamb processing industries but we have applied our technologies to venison, pork, goat and poultry.
Most of our research is funded by industry-good bodies. We also work on projects in collaboration with other organisations. The results are incorporated into equipment manufactured and installed by licensed engineering companies.
We also offer consultancy services to individual clients both nationally and internationally.
